Willie Hugh Nelson is a 90-year-old American singer, musician, songwriter, actor, and activist. He wrote his first song when he was seven and joined his first band at ten. He worked as a disk jockey at several radio stations while he was pursuing his music career. Before he became a star himself, he had already written songs for several stars, which eventually became a hit way back in the 1960s, including “Funny How Time Slips Away,” “Hello Walls,” “Pretty Paper,” and “Crazy.” He played a huge role in post-rock & roll and country music.
Willie recorded his first album, “...And Then I Wrote,” in 1962, which made way for his success. After releasing his “Red Headed Stranger” and “Blue Eyes Crying in The Rain,” he became more successful and gained more fans across the country. His biggest album was “Stardust,” which was released in 1978. All throughout his music career, he has released a total of 100 studio albums, 14 live albums, 51 compilation albums and 41 video albums. He has been active in the music industry until today.
Aside from being a singer, songwriter, and musician, Willie Nelson also ventured into the world of acting. He made his first movie appearance in the 1979 film, “The Electric Horseman,” followed by other appearances in movies and television. He is also an activist and co-chair of the advisory board of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), which is in favor of marijuana legalization.
Willie Nelson won the Grammy Award for Best Country Album for his “A Beautiful Time,” which was released last year, 29th April 2023, during his 89th birthday. On September 15, 2023, he released his 74th solo album named “Bluegrass” through Legacy Recordings. This is his first album of bluegrass music and contains twelve reinterpretations of songs from his back catalog. In an interview, he confessed that it was the first album he did not record with his signature guitar since the acquisition of Trigger.
