It’s bound to be a big year for MODEST MOUSE — the American rock band that took over the 90s and 2000s with hits like “Dashboard,” “Ocean Breathes Salty ,” “Lampshades on Fire,” and “Float On.” With critically-acclaimed albums “The Lonesome Crowded West” and “The Moon & Antarctica,” the Portland-based rockers have kept it all up with constant tours and new material. While the band has seen lineup changes through the years, Isaac Brook has kept the pack alive and kicking, sharing the same heart for rock-out tunes.
Following 2021’s “The Golden Casket,” Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brook kicked off work on a new collection of songs. He initially had six tracks ready to be an LP for his side project, but ultimately decided to push through with something big for Modest Mouse. Producing the record with fellow collaborators Jackknife Lee, Suzy Shinn, and Justin Raisen, they created something that’s bound to be one of the band’s best projects yet.
“For this one, I turned off my filter and just let it all happen,” Brook shared in an official release. “Even though every goddamn musician says that when they put out a record. I mean, go ahead and listen to the three-minute mark of any interview between a musician and Terry Gross…”
“Thoughts, emotions, feelings, all that stuff… you’re like the soup, and it’s not always easy to pick out the ingredients… I feel like I should have more feelings than I do. But then, you know, I’ll sing stuff. And I’m like, Oh, there it is. Oh — it’s in there,” he continued.
After “Look How Far…,” the band shared another new single “Picking Dragon’s Pocket.” With these songs out, it seems like we’ve got a record that’s gonna share a deeper existential side to Brook’s songwriting.
The LP “An Eraser and a Maze” is scheduled for release on June 5, 2026. Now that’s a great way to start a rock-out summer. With shows scheduled through fall, get ready to celebrate with Brook and the whole band.
