The Beach Boys are the most successful American rock band of all time, with over 100 million albums sold and eighty songs charted worldwide, thirty-six US Top 40 hits (the most by an American rock band) and four number-ones on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Led by Brian Wilson, the band's principal songwriter and producer, the Beach Boys first found fame in the 1960s with their close vocal harmonies and songs about surfing, cars and love. Widely considered to be one of the most influential bands of the time, the band's legacy has spread far and wide and their 1966 album Pet Sounds is one of rock's most celebrated albums.
