Known as the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin was a musical child prodigy – an accomplished pianist with a powerful voice from a very young age. Her career started at age 18 when she signed to Columbia Records, who issued her first secular album, Aretha: With The Ray Bryant Combo, in 1961. Franklin had moderate success with Columbia, but her real commercial break came when she signed to Atlantic Records in 1967, which lead to great acclaim and success with songs such as "Respect", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and "Think". Franklin is the most charted female artist in the history of the Billboard Charts; she has recorded a total of 112 charted singles on Billboard, including 77 Hot 100 entries, 17 top ten pop singles, 100 R&B entries and twenty number-one R&B singles. She has won a total of 18 Grammy Awards, making her one of the most awarded artists in Grammy history, and is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 75 million records worldwide. In 1987, she was the first female performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and she was also inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2012. She was placed at number 1 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time list.
